Circular goblet form, spot-hammered, the whole featuring stylised Arts and Crafts motifs, the domed lift-off cover surmounted by an intricately cast and embossed floral and foliate ovoid finial on a rope-twist base, the upper bowl featuring high relief moulded borders with berries and leaves, the inscription encircling the top 'WOLVERHAMPTON ALLOTMENT SOCIETIES', the central panel inscribed 'CHALLENGE TROPHY, Presented by the Proprietors of the Express and Star', a reeded border below with strapwork beneath containing repoussé and chased decoration displaying the sun, flowers and waves, c-scroll cast maiden handles either side, atop a double-knopped and shaped baluster stem embossed with thick blades of plaited grass, all raised on a domed spreading foot, chased with radiating lines and bordered by overlapping acanthus leaves, height 44cm, diameter 17cm, weight 60oz.
