A LARGE GERMAN HISTORISMUS GILT ELECTROPLATED CUP AND COVER IN THE RENAISSANCE MANNER LATE 19TH CENTURY Modelled after a late 16th/early 17th century German example, the body chased with a frieze of classical warriors above military trophies and masks, the cover with urn finial supporting a armoured soldier with spear and shield; together with a similar but smaller cup and cover, chased with a frieze incorporating classical vignettes of reclining figures above masks and oval panels of sea-creatures, the cover decorated with vignettes of classical figures dressed in armour, winged cherub heads and fruit, surmounted by an urn finial capped by a naked figure of Hercules draped with a lion's pelt respectively, 42 in. (106.7 cm.) high and 26½ in. (66 cm.) high (2)
