A LATE GEORGE II MAHOGANY BREAKFRONT SECRETAIRE-CABINET ATTRIBUTED TO THOMAS CHIPPENDALE OR WRIGHT & ELWICK, CIRCA 1755 The upper section with upswept pierced gallery surmounted by foliate pagoda finials, above a geometrically-glazed door enclosing two adjustable shelves, flanked by two similar compartments with pierced fretwork gallery with later bronze flaming urn-finials and geometrically-glazed doors enclosing adjustable shelves, the lower section with chinese-strapwork frieze above a secretaire-drawer, enclosing a green baize-lined interior with central pierced door enclosing three graduated mahogany-lined drawers with tortoiseshell fronts, flanked by vertical mirrored doors and two pigeon-holes over two yewwood-veneered mahogany-lined drawers, the lower right containing an inkwell, above three long graduated drawers, flanked by panelled side cabinets, the side compartments with panelled doors, one enclosing an interior with shelves and drawer, the other enclosing folio dividers and three drawers, on incised panelled bracket feet, minor losses to frieze and feet, four locks removed, the handles original, the small bronze mahogany finials later, the central finial resupported, with laminated feet and red wash to the underside 101 in. (256 cm.) high; 60½ in. (154 cm.) wide; 21½ in. (54.5 cm.) deep
