A LOUIS XV TWO-COLOUR GOLD SNUFF-BOX by Jean-Etienne de Paris (fl. 1736-1773), marked, Paris, 1739/1740, with the charge and discharge marks of Louis Robin 1738-1744 Circular box in the shape of a Chinese lantern, with ribbed and engraved sides, the slightly raised hinged lid chased with wavy flutes radiating from a simulated ring in the centre suspended from a scrolling and foliate simulated hook, the outer border chased in two-colour gold with trailing flowers, the slightly raised thumbpiece chased with a shell, the plain gold base centred by a rocaille motif and framed by reeding 2 in.
