Beschreibung:

A MAGNIFICENT AND HISTORIC NATURAL PEARL The oval drop-shaped natural pearl measuring 17.6-20.8 x 28.5 mm and weighing 302.68 grains to the old-cut diamond acanthus-leaf surmount of later addition, mounted in silver and gold Accompanied by report no. 0509017 dated 16 September 2005 from the Gübelin Gem Lab stating that the drop-shaped pearl is a natural saltwater pearl, accompanied by an appendix and the history of La Régente 'Lustre brings life to a pearl, making it radiate and shine with splendour. It describes the quality and quantity of light, reflected off the surface of the gem. This effect is caused by light reflecting between the thin layers of nacre. Depending on the thickness of the pearl's nacre coating and on the quality of the pearl's surface, the lustre can range from excellent to matt. A high quality lustre gives the pearl a truly spectacular inner glow. This is also one of the special attributes that makes 'La Régente' a truly unique pearl. Its very regular and smooth surface appearance is unlike the vast majority of natural pearls that tend to display nacre concretions and other surface irregularities. This nearly perfect surface texture results in a high, beautiful and homogenous lustre. Pearls are sometimes 'peeled' (i.e. nacre layers are removed manually, one by one) or polished, to help bring out the lustre. In light of the surface appearance of the pearl, it can not be excluded that such a polishing took place, which may explain the slight weight discrepancy at the time of examination (305 grains including metal linings) with the weights recorded in the literature (337 grains). This beautiful pearl, 'La Régente' is exceptional in many respects. Not only does it possess a combination of outstanding characteristics such as a very large size, a perfect drop shape as well as a superior lustre, but this extraordinary pearl also reveals a real charm on its own and is endowed with an exceptional pedigree. Such a combination of remarkable attributes is unknown in natural pearls, and contributes to 'La Régente' being a pearl of unique historical importance' (Appendix to Gübelin Gem Lab report no. 0509017)
