A matching pair of swords ( daisho ) The katana Muromachi period (1493), signed Bishu Osafune Norimitsu , and dated Meio ninen nigatsu hi (a day in the second month, 1493); the wakizashi Muromachi period (16th century) THE KATANA: Sugata [configuration]: Hon-zukuri , iori-mune , saki-zori with fumbari , chu-gissaki Kitae [forging pattern]: Itame with mokume , ji-nie , pale utsuri Hamon [tempering pattern]: chu-suguha of nie with niju-ba Boshi [tip]: ko-maru Nakago [tang]: ubu , katte-sagari file marks, one mekugi-ana , ha-agari kurijiri Habaki [collar]: Double gold-clad Nagasa [length of blade]: 63.8cm Accompanied by a certificate of registration as a Hozon token (Sword worthy of preservation) no. 384132 issued by the Nihon Bijutsu Token Hozon Kyokai (Society for the Preservation of the Japanese Art Sword) 2009.8.12 Shirasaya with sayagaki dated October 1931 by Hon'ami Koson confirming the signature and date THE WAKIZASHI: Sugata [configuration]: Naginata-naoshi , iori-mune , saki-zori curvature Kitae [forging pattern]: Itame with prominent mokume Hamon [tempering pattern]: Deep gunome choji of nie , kinsuji , sunagashi , tobiyaki Boshi [tip]: Midare Nakago [tang]: Osuriage , one mekugi-ana , file marks indistinct, kurijiri Habaki [collar]: Double gold-clad Horimono [carving]: Depleted naginata-hi Nagasa [length of blade]: 35.8cm Shirasaya with sayagaki dated October 1931 by Hon'ami Koson attributing the blade to the first generation Akihiro of Soshu province, and stating that it was from the Shimazu clan collection Koshirae [mounting]: Fully matching daisho koshirae , the scabbards lacquered black with aogai overall and large inlays of other shell, the tsuba shakudo migakiji with gold fukurin , the fuchigashira , kozuka , kogai , menuki , and kurikata of the katana all with autumn flowers in high relief shakudo with gold inlay
