Straight 29 inch blade of oval section with 10 inch panel etched with conventional florals and on one side with a fouled anchor over a riband inscribed W.H. Horstmann/& Sons/Philadelphia. Gilt brass hilt, the guard molded with scaled foliage, the short quillons with scrolled, recurved finials; chain guard; helmet pommel. Reeded bone grip. Brass two-ring scabbard with frog stud and small panels engraved with spearpoints and foliage. the reverse marked 422/Horstmann. Condition: Blade with clean grey metal showing some minor spotting, the decoration very sharp. Hilt retains much gilt finish. Grip with minor chipping. Scabbard with minor dents above the drag.
