Property of a New York Private Collector, descended in the family A Pair of Georgian Silver-Mounted Coconut Cups, Circa 1745The cast rococo bases decorated with a turtle, salamander, serpent and plants, the stems well- modelled as partly kneeling figures with arms reaching to hold the coconut cups, these finely carved with the following scenes of the sugar and coconut harvests in Jamaica as follows: A sugar mill in action, with harvesters, a mill driven by pairs of oxen, with an elegant couple in the foreground, probably the owners, a port with fort in the background; The coconut harvest, with a youth scaling a tree, another pushing a barrow, with several elegant figures with plumed hats, one with attendant holding a parasol, another conversing with a well- dressed Chinese man, a large house in the background and the port with barrels ready to load, With corded rims, one silver the other silvered metal, apparently unmarked. height 9 5/8 in.24.5 cmCondition reportBoth coconuts with cracks, losses, and extensive repairs.
