A PAIR OF GERMAN WHEEL-LOCK SPORTING RIFLES (MÜLLER-BÜCHSEN) each with dated swamped octagonal barrel rifled with eight grooves, fitted with brass sights, grooved behind the back-sight, struck twice with barrelsmith's mark GF, a bird beneath (similar to Neue Støckel 1848) and once with the Gotha mark (Neue Støckel 1450), flat locks engraved on the inside and with brass wheel-covers punched with flowers and foliage, chiselled cocks, each top jaw decorated with an applied brass bird and with brass button finial, fruitwood full stocks inlaid with lines of twisted brass wire, carved in relief with scrolls picked out with brass nails, inlaid with iron panels engraved with scrolls, marine monsters' and on the side of the butts respectively with a horse and a lion, pierced iron trigger-guards, iron butt-plates with button, engraved iron forward ramrod-pipes and fore-end caps, set triggers, and original ramrods with engraved iron caps, the patch-boxes on the underside of the butts (one fore-stock chipped), Gotha, dated 1683 25¼in. barrels [E.216,217, S.9,10] (2)
