A PAIR OF GREEK GOLD AND GARNET EARRINGS HELLENISTIC PERIOD, CIRCA LATE 4TH CENTURY B.C. Each with a pan-shaped disk, the upturned edge formed of two beaded wires framing plain wire, with ropes and plain wire encircling a filigree rosette centered by a garnet in a dog-tooth setting, each disk with a hooked earwire on the reverse, formed into a loop suspending a pendant with an elaborately-capped garnet, one spherical, one natural, the conical crown surmounted by beading, with beaded wire petals along its length, flanged with a plain disk over beaded wire, surmounted by stacked granules, tongues above the garnet, the lower element with filigree petals and beaded wire, looped to a tiny pendant of granules, the central pendant framed on either side by chains looped to the back of the disk, the inner each with a length of figure-eight loop-in-loop chain threaded through a reel-shaped bead, terminating in a cone of filigree petals, the outer each with a length of double loop-in-loop chain and a length of spiraled wires, linked to a spherical garnet bead capped in filigree petals Each: 2¼ in.
