A PAIR OF MEISSEN 'NODDING' ORIENTALS AND GILT-METAL BOCAGE THREE-LIGHT CANDELABRA THE FIGURES CIRCA 1745, BLUE CROSSED SWORDS MARKS TO BACK OF BASES, THE MOUNTS 19TH CENTURY, THE FLOWERS PROBABLY 19TH CENTURY AND PROBABLY FRENCH Each wearing a large green leaf as a hat, one with his right arm and left leg raised, the other with his left arm and right leg raised, wearing similar but differently coloured clothes, with short capes around their shoulders, gilt-edged flowered robes open at the front and yellow shoes, on mound bases applied with coloured flowers and foliage, their detachable 'nodding' heads fitted with lead weights and resting on gilt-metal collars around their necks, on scroll-moulded pierced gilt-metal bases with three large scrolling branches issuing foliate nozzles and supporting green tole foliage mounted with white and coloured porcelain flowers (chipping to flowers and foliage, hats with chipping and flaking to enamel, some flakes re-touched, first figure with chipping to area around neck beneath collar, second figure broken through chest and restored, losses at back filled, left thumb lacking, broken through neck and restuck with old repair, mounts with distressed areas, some flowers detached or loose) The largest figure 9 in. (22.7 cm.) high; the largest bocage 17¼ in. (44 cm.) high overall (2)
