With tapering single-edged blade fullered over most of its length on each side and double-edged towards the point, the forte on one side inscribed in gold 'For Bravery' in Russian within a gold-inlaid border and against a blued ground, and on the other with engraved gold-inlaid crowned cypher of Alexander I within an engraved gold-inlaid border and against a blued ground (the decoration on both sides of the forte very probably carried out at a later date), regulation gilt-brass hilt (minor wear to gilding) comprising heart-shaped guard engraved twice in Russian 'For Bravery' on the inside, one side with later applied red enamelled (crazed and slightly damaged) gold Order of St. Anne fourth class, upbent ovoidal rear quillon stamped with hilt maker's name 'Hintz' on one side in an arch, knuckle-guard, globular pommel with threaded finial of tapering circular section, wooden grip bound with twisted silver wire, and bullion dress sword-knot, in black leather scabbard (minor repairs) with gilt-brass locket, chape and suspension mount, the first engraved 'Tula' in Russian on one side (probably later), and with two rings for suspension 86.4 cm. blade
