A Safavid gold-damascened openwork steel boss Persia, 16th Century of circular form with applied inverted steel rim, the central watered steel panel decorated in openwork with a series of cartouches filled with vegetal interlace, the steel border decorated in gold overlay with undulating vines, applied silver boss to centre with the Christian date 1571, further gold decoration to reverse including inscription 14 cm. diam.
