Forging pattern ( jihada ): extremely fine and tightly-compacted wood grain ( ko-itame ). Tempering pattern ( hamon ): a very crisp suguba in the upper half of the blade displaying a crisp habuchi and also firm control of the ko-nie ; the lower half breaks suddenly into a clove ( choji ) formation and drops to a yaki-dashi .
