(A) US M1816 MUSKET CONVERTED TO PERCUSSION BY REMINGTON AND DATED 1855.

US M1816 musket converted to percussion by Remington and dated 1855. 42" round barrel in .69 caliber rifled with rifle rear sight and blade front on front barrel band. Barrel is dated 1855 near breech with "L / 35" below it. Maynard's patent lock is marked "PVH" on primer cover ahead of cock with "REMINGTON'S / HERKIMER / N.Y." behind cock. Full-length trumpet's head ramrod is correctly cupped for use with Minie ball projectiles. Buttplate screws, comb of stock, tang screw, and lock screw retaining plate are all numbered "9". Front barrel band is numbered "L / 35" in the same manner as the tang is near breech. 1-piece plain walnut stock in three barrel band configuration complete with US marked military buttplate. CONDITION: Excellent and still in original National Armory bright, with scattered light age-related pitting and handling marks throughout. Stock is in matching condition with slight burnout near hammer and handling marks throughout with no visible cracks. Action is crisp and tight with two clear stops at full and half cock. Bore is dark with visible 3-groove rifling. Overall a fine example of a scarcely seen rifled musket conversion.
