A Very Fine And Rare 25-Bore Scottish All-Metal Flintlock Belt Pistol By John Campbell Sr., Doune, circa 1715 With three-stage barrel retaining faint traces of original blued finish and decorated with two panels of scrollwork on a hatched ground, and with a baluster moulding at the muzzle and a slotted ramp at the rear of the breech, border engraved rounded lock signed 'John Campbell Downe (sic) ', three-quarter stock engraved with Celtic scrollwork and foliage and inlaid with silver scrolls and interlaced strapwork, all punched with dots, silver panels engraved with foliage and expanded flower-heads, and with a star on each side of the 'ram's horn' butt, pierced and engraved silver button trigger and pricker, engraved belt hook with pierced and engraved tang, and original iron ramrod with pierced baluster tip, the top of the butt with silver shield-shaped escutcheon engraved with the arms of Loftus(?) (some scattered light surface pitting, mainly on the breech) 16½in. (41.9cm.)
