A VERY RARE AND UNUSUAL GUYUE XUAN ENAMELED-GLASS AND GILT-BRONZE SNUFF BOTTLE IMPERIAL, PALACE WORKSHOPS, BEIJING, 1770-1799 Of compressed form with waisted neck, flat lip and recessed flat foot surrounded by a footrim, the main sides inset with quatrefoil white glass panels finely painted in famille rose enamels, one decorated with a pheasant standing on rockwork surrounded by flowering peonies, a butterfly in flight above, the other painted with a pair of deer beneath a flowering prunus tree, with sprigs of lingzhi and asters growing nearby, the gilt-bronze bottle finely cast on both narrow sides and the shoulders with a stylized lotus scroll, the neck encircled by bands of formalized lingzhi heads top and bottom, the base cast with a relief four-character mark in seal script, Qianlong nian zhi (Made in the Qianlong period), original gilt-metal stopper 2 13/32 in. (6.1 cm.) high
