A VERY RARE CARVED THREE-COLOR LACQUER TWO-DOOR DISPLAY CABINET
QIANLONG PERIOD (1736-1795)
A VERY RARE CARVED THREE-COLOR LACQUER TWO-DOOR DISPLAY CABINET QIANLONG PERIOD (1736-1795) Of rectangular section, the two doors and the sides well carved through the red, green and ochre layers with scenes of Europeans accompanied by attendants bearing tribute, the back carved with a ruyi -bordered, quadrilobed medallion filled with and surrounded by formalized lotus scroll, repeated on the unusual domed roof applied with openwork scroll brackets at the corners, the recessed area below the eaves pierced around the sides with arched openings separated by lotus sprigs, with similar recessed walls above the base which is raised on four bracket supports joined by a shaped apron, the black-lacquered interior painted in gold with flowers and set with an arrangement of shelves and small drawer above a long drawer carved with scholars and attendants, with a brass carrying handle 19¾ in. (50.2 cm.) high, 14 in. (35.5 cm.) long, 10½ in. (26.5 cm.) deep
