A Very Rare Cased 20-Bore D.B. Forsyth Patent Roller Primer Sporting Gun By Forsyth & Co., Patent Gun Manufacturers, No. 10 Piccadilly, London, Nos. 2774-2775, circa 1821 With browned twist barrels (small areas of minor pitting) and silver fore-sight, the elevated rib engraved scrollwork at the rear and signed 'Forsyth & Co., Patent Gun Makers London', case-hardened patent breeches engraved at the centre and each with two platinum lines, case-hardened tang engraved with characteristic scrollwork, engraved case-hardened serial numbered locks each signed 'Forsyth & Co. Patent', the heads of the sear pins on the outside of the lock-plates, engraved serial numbered primers each decorated with a bird and struck 'F Patent', and 'R' and 'L' on the inner surface, finely figured walnut half-stock (minor chips and scratches), chequered grip, iron mounts with characteristic engraving (some minor surface pitting), silver escutcheon, and original brass-mounted ramrod: in original lined and fitted mahogany case with accessories including correct cylindrical flask, and two wooden boxes containing respectively grease and felt pads for the primers, the lid with illustrated trade label of the third design (for 1811-1816) between two smaller instructional labels, the exterior with flush-fitting carrying handle and circular escutcheon, London proof marks 30in. (76.2cm.) barrels
