A VICTORIAN MAHOGANY EIGHT DAY LONGCASE REGULATOR ALFRED MOUNTAIN, LONDON, THIRD QUARTER 19TH CENTURY CASE: glazed movement viewing doors to sides, carved mahogany apron below dial, the plinth with fielded panel, the backboard mounted with a bevelled-edge mirror glass panel, on stepped base DIAL: 11½ in. diameter silvered and engraved regulator dial, with observatory markings to seconds ring, signed 'A.F. Mountain, London S.W', blued steel hands MOVEMENT: of massive construction, with thick rectangular brass plates secured by large double-screwed pillars, Vulliamy dead beat escapement with jewelled pallets, the wheel train with six crossings and Harrison's maintaining power, the escape wheel with jewelled end-caps, fine adjustment to the crutch-piece; the steel rod stirrup pendulum with replaced mercury jar (mercury removed), blued steel pointer swinging against a calibrated silvered beat scale; replaced brass weight, case keys 72 in. (183 cm.) high; 19 in. (48.5 cm.) wide; 11¾ in. (30 cm.) deep
