In his work Greeting Card 10a, 2007, Young first created a large multicoloured and platform covererd black topcoat. This ‘stage' was then installed in the New York Armory building. Once installed, the live painting performance began. A group of motorcyclists were asked to burnout, skid, spin and drive across the panels. With each aggressive maneuver the black top coat was stripped away and the colours below exposed. Young's direction of the painting created conditions chance within a controlled environment. The process of painting by motorcycle revisited the concepts in painting explored by artists such as Jackson Pollock and Franz Kline Young however expanded upon their exploration by incorporating a performance element and introducing new technologies to the creative environment. Young is amongst of group of artist's using modern technology to explore 20th century movements. Like Anslem Reyele's (lot x) exploration of Minimalism, Young's approach to revisiting Abstract Expressionism and Performance Art explores the condition and ways in which a painting is created.
