First Edition. Summary of the calculations made over some years of the longitude of Washington from Greenwich. Included with the lot is an 1810 pamphlet by Lambert, "To the Critical Reviewers of Boston, in the state of Massachusetts..." 8 pp., unbound, responding to critics who questioned his motives and abilities for his proposal to establish Washington as prime meridian. Congress apparently did establish Washington as Prime Meridian for the U.S. The first item with signature of Thos. Rogers at top of title-page. Both housed in custom half cloth folder.
