Type: 2:88G. 10-line magenta initial on later gold ground opening text, a few 3-line initial spaces filled in red, blue or 18th-century black ink, remaining 2- to 10-line spaces left blank. (Inscription on 1/1r lower blank margin pasted over, occasional spotting and staining.) 18th-century speckled sheep-backed flexible paste-boards lettered in gilt, speckled edges (a little wormed and scuffed). Provenance : Franciscus de Hirtenberg (17th-century inscriptions, the first pasted over, the second with armorial and cropped) -- Retz, Dominican Convent (18th-century stamp). Second Latin edition of this treatise on the education of princes, which was composed originally for the French King Philip the Fair (1238-1314).
