Note:
The present work is informed by Dawe's depiction of Tsar Alexander I (1777-1825), of which various versions exist, including one which is now in the Royal Collection [RCIN 400098]. Dawe worked for Alexander I in St Petersburg between 1818 and 1828, in which time he produced 336 portraits of those responsible for the defeat of Napoleon (1769-1821).
