Beschreibung:

Al Hirschfeld Untitled Drawing depicting actresses in The Green Pastures . Ink on board, circa 1930s. Signed Hirschfeld lower right and inscribed in pencil by the previous owner at lower left Illustration for "The Green Pastures"/ Acquired 1939/ HHS. Approximately 18.5 x 15 inches. Dampstain along left extremity and into image at lower left, board toned, slight abrasions from former matting. A rare early Hirschfeld depicting the African American leads of the controversial Pulitzer Prize winning play, The Green Pastures. Since the play was published in 1930 and ran on Broadway until 1935, and a Hollywood production was released in 1936, it is unknown which version Hirschfeld depicts here. The original owner Henry H.
