Alexis Kreyder (Andlau, 1839 - Paris, 1912)
Vase de fleurs
Original canvas
Signed on the bottom left ‘A Kreyder’
H 129×L 96cm
Alexis Kreyder moved to Paris at the age of 20. His first participation in the 1863 salon was acclaimed for his Rosiers blancs. He was awarded many distinctions at the salons, and the Légion d’honneur in 1889. This painting shows a bouquet of peonies (white, orange, pink and red) in a Faenza ceramic vase. Kreyder displays his virtuosity and technical mastery for naturalist motifs. The sophisticated composition into a rich bouquet and ascending movement, and the multiple colors enhanced by the neutral and uniform background make this a dynamic and spectacular work.
