Agnes Forester was the daughter of Pulter Forester of Broadfield Hall, Hertfordshire. She married the Reverend Ralph Freman on 12th April 1743. The composition may be compared with Anne Cheape (no.90) and Mary Nisbet (No.403) of 1750, both in the catalogue raisonne. Estimate £15,000-25,000 Relined and cleaned. Christie's stencil mark - C 492. One bump upper left-hand corner. The frame has warped - areas of gilding and gesso on frame are cracked and flaking. Undulations in canvas upper left corner. Painting in good condition. Lined. Varnish is clear, glossy and even. Some surface dirt and accretions on the surface of varnish.
