AMERICAN BRITISH HISTORY]. [COMMERCIAL REPORT OF THE BRITISH EMPIRE]. Manuscript document, a report on the "State of the Navigation, Commerce, and Revenues of the British Empire, with remarks thereon," presented by Mr. Irving to William Pitt the Younger, n.p., 1791. 8 pp., folio. A detailed discussion of trade within the British Empire in the latter stages of the 19th century. The author notes major ports of trade and the balance of imports and exports to various world trading centers. A list of the specifics of trade to the United States is included, on which Irving remarks "unless some measures, are speedily adopted to place us upon a fair footing of reciprocal Priviledges with the American States every British vessel I fear will be excluded from their ports." Irving concludes with a discussion of the collection of revenues. -- [TOTTEN, Joseph MILITARY FORTIFICATIONS]. A copy letter of General James Totten to George Cullum, Washington, 13 February 1855. 3½ pp., folio, small sketch of a plan for a fortification roof tipped onto page 3. [With:] a 12 page overview of fortification principles with hand-sketched diagrams and nomenclature in an unknown hand. THE ROOF AT FORT SUMTER. Totten discusses a plan for allowing the drainage of the roof over the arches at Fort Sumter: "I have to say, that the following process seems...to be adequate to prevent any sliding of the hollow walls and other brickwork, to be laid on the...covering of the roof of Fort Sumter."-- DANA, Richard H. (1815-1882). Autograph letter signed twice ("R.H. Dana jr" "R.H.D. jr") to John Harburd, Boston, 9 October 1885. 2 pp., 8vo, integral leaf tipped to a separate sheet . Regretting that he will be unable to present a lecture before the lyceum. -- The British Gazette , numbers 1 through 8, 5 May 1926 through 13 May 1926. (11)
