A cylinder desk in mahogany with birds-eye maple accents and white pine secondary, the recessed top having three aligned drawers, the cylinder top opening to fitted interior with six drawers, pigeon holes and slide writing surface, the case with two aligned over two full graduated drawers flanked by elaborately carved stop fluted stiles, all rising on turned feet; ht. 45.75, wd. 39.25, dp. 20.75 in. For a similar example see John & Thomas Seymour Cabinetmakers in Boston, 1794-1816 by Vernon C. Stoneman, pg. 126. Condition: Generally good condition, with proper left side end panel exhibiting an age split that was covered by an original piece of moulding. Scattered losses of side panel molding (though pieces present). Old, but not original finish. Oval brasses appear to be original.
