attributed to Boston, Mass. maker Samuel Gray circa 1825-30. This black leather shako has its original mounts, including, white wool pompom, gold cording and a leather rosette cockade with brass five pointed star and spread-winged U.S. shield-breasted eagle clutching arrows and olive branch, brass graduated scaled strap with starred button mounts at side at base of crown. An identical shako from the Guthman Collection sold at Sotheby's in January 2003 for $3600.00. Provenance:Bernard Drew's Estate Condition:Leather in nice condition with crazing as expected, else VG+.
