Condition : minor foxing as usual; minor wear at extremities. The work includes the Laws of the society, lists of officers and members (including its President and founder Benjamin Franklin and articles by David Rittenhouse John Ewing, William Smith John Morgan Benjamin Rush and others. Much of the scientific content in this first volume relates to the transit of Venus. Of particular interest is “An Abstract of sundry Papers and Proposals for improving Inland Navigation of Pennsylvania and Maryland” which is accompanied by a fine map engraved by J. Smither.
