Near contemporary sheep, worn and rubbed, front cover of the first volume detached, losses to spine ends on each volume; spines stamped in gilt, chipped and faded. Varying degrees of foxing and toning throughout the entirety of each volume, especially to the prelims and rear endpapers; margins slightly trimmed; fore-edge of p.183 in the second volume completely excised; fore-edge of p.263 in the second volume partially excised; scattered manuscript notation in the margins of the second volume; worming to front paste-down and first free endpaper of the first volume. With the armorial book-plate of W.S. Jones, Vaucluse (Frederick County, Virginia) on the front paste-down of each volume and with his signature on the title-page in the second volume.
