An Antique Yellow Gold and Amethyst Necklace, containing 14 graduated oval shape mixed cut amethyst measuring approximately 22.70-12.20 x 17.45-9.50 mm centered on oval plaques with applied florets, granulation and cannetille designs. 34.50 dwts. Estimate $ 1,500-2,500 The necklace measures approximately 14 1/2" in length. Surface acid tests indicate that the metal is 14 karat gold but necklace is of the age where the components may be a combination of solid gold, rolled gold and gold wash. The gold surfaces have superficial scratches that are not readily eye visible, several of the plaques have minor discoloration to the gold surfaces on the reverse side. A few of the stones are slightly crooked in their settings but is not easily noticeable. All of the stones are securely set. The granulation and cannetille work is distinct and crisp. The clasp and locking mechanism works well.
