George Monks, Prescot, circa 1815-20 Having a 14-inch broken-arched Roman dial with subsidiary seconds dial and painted birds over a terrestrial calendar crescent and inscribed maker's name "Geo: Monks PRESCOT", within floral spandrels, the arch with lunar calendar over rolling moon painted with a ship flying the Red Ensign, plus a ruin in a landscape, over terrestrial hemispheres, the knopped four-pillar movement having an anchor escapement, rack-striking on a bell, the case having a swan-neck pediment with three brass finials and enamelled disc terminals, over fluted columns with brass capitals, the trunk with patera-centred and lozenge-inlaid frieze over a yoke-topped crossbanded trunk door between reeded columns, the canted crossbanded base lacking feet, 227cm high, (sold with two weights, pendulum, key and winder)
