AN EDWARDIAN SCARLET JAPANNED CHINOISERIE DECORATED MANTEL TIMEPIECE UNSIGNED, EARLY 20TH CENTURY The circular French eight-day movement with platform lever escapement regulated by spring bimetallic balance and with integral winding and setting keys to the backplate, the 3.25 inch circular convex silvered Roman numeral dial with blued steel spade hands set behind ogee moulded cast brass convex bevel-glazed bezel, the case with coronet-shaped surmount to the ribbed concave-sided hipped 'pagoda' superstructure finished in toned bands of gilt to simulate roof tiles onto a deep muted red ground, over cavetto cornice and panelled front decorated in raised polychrome and gilt with garden pavilion and other structures to spandrel areas, the sides and further decorated with oriental garden landscapes incorporating pagodas and willow trees, the rear conforming and with circular brass cover for the movement, the base with blind-fret trellis decorated apron over outswept skirt decorated with gilt scrollwork and incorporating feet to angles. 25cm (9.75ins) high, 15cm (6ins) wide, 9.5cm (3.75ins) deep.
