An Egyptian striped woven bag from the Bedouin settlement of Ain Saafi on the edge of the Siwa Oasis. Woven by women on a horizontal loom, with acrylic tassels and shoulder strap, and triangular cloth amulet with pendant triangle and bead fringe, 30cm x 34cm. Bought in Ain Saafi in 1998 (Na 55); two dress neckbands, the first V-shaped for dress of unmarried girl, in black cotton embroidered with black, red, orange floss silks, 40cm x 6.5cm, the square neckband for married woman, embroidered in green, orange, yellow floss silks, 26cm wide. These bands were worn on a striped dress for marriage and for everyday on dresses of bright colours. Bought in Siwa in 1998 from small shop owned by Christians and very run down (Na 53), and two menÆs woven camelhair sashes from Bedouin settlement on edge of Siwa Oasis, each embroidered in red, yellow, blue, green at end borders and zig-zag over entire length, 8cm and 9am wide. Bought in Ain Saafi in 1998. (Na 56)
