An emotive Second World War Japanese Prisoner-of-War group of three, comprising 1939-1945 and Pacific Stars, and War Medal, to 5572098 Pte Arthur Frederick Haines, Royal Norfolk Regiment, sold with Cap Badge, King's Badge [for invalided members of the Forces], Soldier's Pay Book and Service Book, Red Cross Identity Certificate, four pages of diary dates listing the crucial events during his captivity, and 5 'Form' post cards sent to his family; Banknotes, a poem, a harrowing hand-written account of when the Japanese soldiers arrived at Alexander Hospital, etc. Medals extremely fine. (lot) The 4th, 5th and 6th Battalions of the Royal Norfolk Regiment served in the Far East, as part of the 18th Infantry Division, defending Singapore and Malaya against the Japanese advance. The battalions ended up as prisoners-of-war when Singapore fell in February 1942 and they would remain so until August 1945, during which time they had been used as forced labour on the Death Railway and other projects.
