Both sides etched with florals, panoplies of kettle drums and pennants, the Royal crown and inscribed Prince/Alberts/Own/Hussars above the regimental crest of the sphinx and below that with the battle honors Egypt/Salamanca/Peninsula/Waterloo/Bhurtpore. Maker marked Andrews/London. Gilt brass guard cast and chased with scrollwork and set on either side with a silver sphinx inscribed Egypt. Elephant ivory gripscales. Steel scabbard with heavy brass mounts cast and chased with scrollwork. Condition: Blade showing strong etching and scattered minor pitting. Hilt retains 40-50% gilt finish. One gripscale cracked at the pommel. Scabbard showing some light pitting, the mounts with traces of gilt finish. See Illustration
