An extremely finely detailed 1:384 scale diorama depicting the U.S. brigantine 'Newsboy' of Boston, circa 1854 with all sails set in a port reach with a Virginia pilot boat in the background, built by J.A.Evans. Measurements overall -- 6 3/8 x 11½in (16.2 x 29.2cm) 'Newsboy' with standing and running rigging and full suit of sails and deck details including anchors, windlass, cleats, belaying rails, fife rails, hatches, deck houses, stove pipe, companionway, ship's wheel, binnacle, ship's boat and members of the crew going about their duties. The fully planked hull, copper plated to the waterline, has planked topsides and is finished in black, white and natural wood. The pilot schooner is under full sail and both are mounted on a painted moulded seascape. Glazed case. 'Newsboy' was designed by Dennison J.Lawlor and was built at Owls Head, Maine by Capt. Elisha Brown for Dabney & Cunningham of Boston.
