An Historical Journal of the Campaigns in North-America, for the Years 1757, 1758, 1759, and 1760. London: printed for the Author, and sold by W. Johnston, 1769. 2 volumes. x, [6] subscribers list, 406, [2]; [2], 466, [2] pp. Engraved portrait frontispieces, folding engraved map by Kitchin of The British Dominions in America. 4to (255 x 200 mm). Period mottled calf. Slipcase. Occasional finger-soiling, map creased at edges and torn through and repaired at stub, rubbed, neat repairs to joints. FIRST EDITION. The author, an Irish captain in the English army, gives a detailed account of the sieges of Louisburg and Quebec, and provides an Algonquin dictionary. One of the best eyewitness accounts of the French and Indian War. Howes K222; Lande 486; Sabin 38164; Streeter sale 1030. Provenance: ownership inscription on title and occasional marginal annotations of a Captain William Johnston of the 48th Regiment.
