An Important and Rare Figure of Vishnu South India, Tamilnadu, Pallava Dynasty, 7th/8th Century The deity holding the conch and mace in his left hands and offering a lotus flower in his open right palm, wearing a striped dhoti tied with elaborate sashes, the sacred thread looped about his torso and right arm while the garland hangs from the crook of his upper arms, his face well-worn from devotion surmounted by a cylindrical headdress and backed by a halo, the reverse with well-cast details 11 in. (28.0 cm.) high
