It has an innate brilliance and transparency that is not evident in other diamonds and was probably found in the alluvial gravels of river banks or areas that once contained rivers that flowed thousands of years ago. The best known mines were at Kollur in the southern part of the kingdom of Golconda. It was in this region that some of the most famous diamonds have been found, including the Koh-i-Noor, the Regent, and the Tavernier Blue.
