AN INLAID BRONZE BIRD-FORM FINIAL LATE EASTERN ZHOU DYNASTY, 5TH-4TH CENTURY BC The tubular socket pierced through the sides and surmounted by a seated bird with long neck and large beak, the body detailed with feathers and the back formed by an animal head with open mouth from which issues an openwork rectangular panel enclosing a crouching feline, with silvery patina and green encrustation; together with an unusual cock's head finial, late Eastern Zhou dynasty, the sides cast in low relief with the details of the head, and surmounted by a plain scalloped flange tapering to the sharp edges 3½ and 3¼ in.
