LATE 17TH CENTURY, THE STAND OF A LATER DATE
AN ITALIAN ORMOLU, REPOUSSE GILT-METAL AND HARDSTONE-MOUNTED EBONY AND EBONISED NIGHT CLOCK ON STAND LATE 17TH CENTURY, THE STAND OF A LATER DATE The pierced rectangular dial painted screen depicting the Immaculate Conception, the hour plate painted with winged putti, within a scrolling foliate surround, set with specimen stones, including lapis lazuli, fluorspar and alabasters, within an architectural case with a broken pediment centred by an arched hood surmounted by a winged angel and flanked by putti, and set with beaded panels and centred by a glazed panel painted with winged cherubs holding a banner, flanked to either side by female herm pilasters and flanked by volute scrolls, above a stepped base, similarly set with hardstone panels and fitted with a drawer, the later inverted breakfront stand above conformingly moulded stepped plinth base, the plate inscribed Petrus Thomas Campanus Inventor Romae 1682 , segment of circular plate cut 92½ in. (235 cm.) high; 31 in. (79 cm.) wide; 12½ in. (32 cm.) deep
