Beschreibung:

Lot of 2, including miniature Bowie knife, approx. 2.5 in. long, and miniature pocket knife, approx. 3 in. extended, accompanied by a typed letter dated February 2, 1971, from Michael Reese, an editor at Guns & Ammo magazine, to famed knife maker Jimmy Lile, in which the artifacts are discussed. The letter begins: "Enclosed you will find a miniature Bowie type knife and a miniature pocket knife. These two knives were hand made by a prisoner at Andersonville, Georgia during the Civil War...Please accept these rare miniatures as a token of our friendship." The 2 Andersonville knives and letter are framed together for display, 13 x 17 in. overall. After Lile's death, his widow gifted the Andersonville artifacts to a major Bowie knife collector who owned many Lile knives, as indicated by the inscription inked on the the back of the frame, and the grouping was later purchased by the consignor from the collector's estate. Condition: Some tarnish on miniature knives. Typed letter near excellent condition. Not examined outside frame.
