Am Boden mit Werkstattmarke bezeichnet und datiert: Cumella 1977 (graviert). Antoni Cumella i Serret (1913 - 1985) In seinen Keramiken gelingt dem Katalanen Antoni Cumella ein meisterhaftes Spiel mit Formen und Glasuren. Er variiert kugelige, gestreckte, kegelartige und zylindrische Formen mit weichen Umrissprofilen, in denen die Rotation stets sichtbar bleibt. Bei den Glasuren setzt er eher auf das Monochrome und bietet hier eine Fülle von Nuancen, Abstufen und Körnungen, häufig mattschimmernd, oft samtig oder auch fein kristallin. Eine besondere Wirkung entwickelt sich im Dialog der Keramiken miteinander. Seine Arbeiten verstand Antoni Cumella in künstlerischer Hinsicht als Untersuchung von Materie und Formen im Raum. Cumella erhielt für sein Werk zahlreiche Auszeichnungen (u.a. 1936 und 1951 Goldmedaille Triennale Milano, 1980 Premio Nacional de Artes Plásticas España), seine Keramiken präsentierte er sowohl in Spanien als auch international in Einzel- und Gruppenausstellungen, u.a. zusammen mit Arbeiten von Joan Miró Pablo Picasso Marc Chagall und Salvador Dali. Antoni Cumella i Serret (1913 - 1985) In his ceramics, the Catalan artist Antoni Cumella succeeds in masterfully playing with shapes and glazes. He varies spherical, stretched, cone-like and cylindrical forms with soft contour profiles in which the rotation is always visible. When it comes to glazes, he prefers monochrome and offers a wealth of nuances, gradations and grains, often with a matt shimmer, often velvety or finely crystalline. A special effect develops in the dialogue between the ceramics. From an artistic point of view, Antoni Cumella understood his work as an investigation of matter and forms in space.
