The present painting is a rare representation of the Empress painted shortly after her marriage. Frans van Stampart established a reputation as a portraitist of European rulers, aristocrats and higher clergy. He had an international career, which brought him to Vienna where he worked as court painter for the House of Habsburg. He is also known as the co-publisher of two publications with reproductions of the Imperial art collection in Vienna for which he also made some of the engravings.
