Erpenii. - Bound with: Locmani Arabis Fabulae et selecta quaedam Arabum adagia. Leyden, in typogr. Erpeniana linguarum orientalium, 1615. (16), 78 pp., impressum-leaf, (32) pp. Sm-8º. Old cf. (Tear in spine, bind. a bit chafed, paste downs detached, loosening, margins a bit wormholed, margin of lower outer corner a bit brittle/dam., inner margin a bit stained). First edition of the Arabic text, printed with Latin translation and preface. Lokman was a legendary sage of the pre-Muhammedanian era. This late 13th-c. adaptation of a Syrian translation of Aesop's Fables was attached to his name. Edited by Thomas Erpenius (1584-1624), professor of oriental languages at Leiden, printed at his private press with types cut specially for him in 1613 after his return from Paris. - Rare, only 1 copy in NCC.
