A fascinating archive, clearly establishing the provenance of a group of silver cups used by General Washington during the American Revolution. The cups were bequeathed by General Washington to his nephew Judge Bushrod Washington along with his Mount Vernon Estate; Judge Washington then gave them to his nephew, Colonel George C. Washington who in turn gave them to his niece Fannie Washington Finch. Miss Finch sold them to William Nelson Johnson who later sold them to William Lanier Washington. W. Lanier Washington, as this archive reveals, sold them to collector W.K. Bixby. There are several museums and private collections which possess examples of Washington's camp cups and it has not been determined if these documents refer to any of these known examples.
