ARISTIDES, Aelius (2nd century). Orationes Aristidis, in Greek and Latin. Florence: Filippo Giunta, 20 May 1517. 2° (310 x 206mm). In Greek and Latin. Woodcut publisher's device on verso of final leaf. (Wormtrack in blank margin of final quire, title slightly soiled and with tip of one corner worn, light dampstaining.) 18th-century calf, spine gilt in seven compartments, lettered in two (joints slightly split, small tear to front cover, corners rubbed). Provenance : Thomas, Lord Viscount Weymouth, Baron Thynne (armorial bookplate dated 1704). FIRST EDITION of the fifty-two orations of Aristides. It was edited by the Florentine physician, Eufrosino Bonini, and dedicated to Leo X. In addition to the orations, the work includes Aristide's Notitiae Philostrati and orations by other ancient writers. Adams A-1702; Brunet I, 450 ("Belle édition, assez rare").
